HyperionDev is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to make that possible.


Our Commitment

Accessibility at HyperionDev is not treated as an add-on. It is embedded directly into our platform architecture, content design, and development lifecycle. We build in line with the four core principles of accessibility: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust (POUR).


Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. They exist at three levels: A, AA, and AAA. Many accessibility regulations across the globe including Section 508 (US), the UK Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, and the EN 301 549 standard (EU) set WCAG Level AA as the benchmark for compliance.


HyperionDev's Learning Management System (LMS) is currently conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA.


To advance our conformance and uphold our ongoing commitment to accessibility, we have:


  • Embedded accessibility testing into our two-week development sprint cycle, so fixes and improvements ship continuously rather than as periodic overhauls
  • Conducted structured internal audits covering screen reader compatibility (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack), keyboard-only navigation, and colour contrast
  • Mapped a phased roadmap to full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance, prioritising critical and high-impact findings first
  • Compiled an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) based on the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) and Higher Education Community Vendor Assessment Toolkit (HECVAT), both of which are regularly updated. This documentation is made available to institutional partners on request

Current Accessibility Features

Perceivable

  • Alternative text for all images and visual content
  • Closed captioning and downloadable transcripts for video and audio materials
  • High-contrast display modes and scalable, resizable text

Operable

  • Full keyboard navigation with logical tab sequencing and visible focus indicators
  • Adjustable timing for timed assessments
  • No content that flashes more than three times per second
  • Clear, structured layout with breadcrumb navigation

Understandable

  • Clear and simple language throughout the platform
  • Consistent navigation and consistent identification of interface elements
  • Error identification with clear correction guidance
  • Accessible authentication methods that do not rely solely on cognitive puzzle-solving

Robust

  • Compatible with assistive technologies including JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, ZoomText, and built-in browser magnifiers
  • Mobile-responsive design that maintains a consistent, accessible experience across devices

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some parts of the HyperionDev platform may not yet be fully conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA. Known limitations are logged, prioritised, and addressed through our regular remediation cycle. Where a technical fix is still in progress, our support team can provide an interim accommodation. Third-Party Content

Some content on our platform is provided or hosted by third parties (for example, embedded video, external learning tools, or partner-supplied materials). While we require accessibility from our partners and vendors wherever possible, we cannot always guarantee full conformance of third-party content and will assist in providing an accessible alternative where needed.


Assessment and Feedback

We assess the accessibility of our platform through a combination of:


  • Automated scanning as part of every development sprint
  • Manual audits using industry-standard screen readers and assistive technologies
  • Feedback from learners with diverse accessibility needs, which directly informs our development roadmap
